Biography: Bill Diesslin is the Environmental Programs Manager within the Department of Environmental Health and Safety at Iowa State University. He has twelve years of experience in environmental management. He is responsible for hazardous waste management, leaking underground storage tank remediation, chemical emergency response, and Clean Air Act compliance.

Mr. Diesslin has a B.S. in Life Sciences from Winona State University and a M.S. in Environmental Engineering from Iowa State University. He is a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) at the master level, a Certified Groundwater Professional, and a Certified Water Well Contractor. He has been a member of the Iowa Groundwater Association since 1990 and presently serves on the board of directors.

Abstract:
In July of 1999, the Department of Environmental Health & Safety at Iowa State University (ISU) identified several violations of hazardous waste rules. A Large Quantity Generator and permitted Treatment Storage and Disposal Facility, Iowa State University decided to self-report non-compliance to regulatory officials. Events leading to discovery of this situation and corrective action taken were voluntarily reported Region VII of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). A summary of the EPA audit policy and qualifying criteria will be presented in addition to EPA's response as well as ISUs corrective actions.
