The ACHMM 2001 Conference will offer an exciting range of programs.
Highlights include:

  • Technical Sessions. We will offer eight concurrent technical sessions presenting cutting-edge ideas and technology. The speakers represent all sectors: government, consulting, legal, education and industry. Featured speakers will include the U.S. EPA's Walter Kovalick (Director, Technology Innovation Office), Nancy Wentworth (Director of Quality Programs), Gerry Phillips (Manager, RCRA Corrective Action); Illinois EPA's William Child (Chief, Bureau of Land). From URS Corporation we have Greg Smith.

  • Certification Congress. Many of us wonder about the worth of the CHMM credential and ask what is being done to promote its value and expand its scope. An inventive portion of the conference will be the Certification Congress, featuring leaders from the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM), the ACHMM, and governmental agencies, who will show how certification can be transformed into action.

  • Technical Tours. Think about sitting in the control room to observe a nuclear reactor being taken apart or touring the largest wastewater treatment plant, a deep tunnel stormwater treatment system, a waste oil refinery, or a rust-belt brownfield remediation site.

  • Training. Prior to the full conference programs beginning on Monday, the Conference will offer two training sessions: combined Hazwoper-RCRA-DOT refresher training on the Saturday and an OSHA Record-Keeping Workshop on Sunday. If these are a necessary requirement for your profession, why not sign up and do it here?

  • Job Fair.  If you are looking to fill a professional position or for a position for yourself, then check out the Job Fair. The Job Fair will offer several seminars to improve job hunting skills and a database of open positions and potential candidates.

  • Recreation. Our recreational events will be top notch: Second City Comedy, a night game at Wrigley Field, the Blue Man Group, Steppenwolf Theater, and a rocking gospel brunch at the House of Blues. We even have the run of the world-renowned Shedd Aquarium for the Monday evening reception, during which we will honor past ACHMM presidents.
